Fanta beach

Interesting new flavour of Fanta has reached the UK market: Fanta beach! The flavour contains "strawberry and kiwi. What an interesting mix, but it sure tastes refreshing in this cold autumn.
It feels like strawberry flavour comes first and kiwi as an aftertaste.

Good job, Fanta!

Eneloop Mobile booster

If you have ever run into a situation, where your gadgets are nearly out of battery and you don't have any chargers with you nor a change to charge in a long time, you may be interested in this. A while ago, I saw Jetdaisuke's videos about "Eneloop" rechargeable batteries, which claim to last for hours. Surprisingly, I found out that they have just updated their "mobile stick booster", which is a pencil-looking charger with two Eneloop batteries inside and usb port on the top. I surfed immeadiately to Amazon JP to look for this product, but it seemed to add up close to 4000円 with all the shipping and Tenso's fees. Pretty hefty price for a student.

Next step was to go on eBay and I couldn't believe my eyes, when I saw that you can get the Mobile booster for $25 including airmail shipping from Japan. I was little curious about the airmail shipping, but then again, I realized Japanese efficiency and it took only one week.

The value of the shipment was marked as only $10 to avoid customs.

Finally to the point, what this Eneloop Mobile Booster actually is?

There you can see the size of it. Batteries included are the newer technology Eneloops, which will give you 90minutes of charging time for Nintendo DSi, iPhone, PSP and other mobile devices. It came with two adapters, micro-usb and "nintendo-ds style usb".

^ charging in progress

To conclude, I believe that this tiny little charger is easy to carry in a bag, just in case if the battery is running out. It will sure come handy especially, when traveling!

iPhone 4S

iPhone 4S is now officially released and Apple sold 4 million in 3 days!

Well, I know, its just a phone (= personal preference/asset), so I'm not going to praise it anymore. You can check all the features from the original source The reason I got it, was that I already got a buyer for my old phone and got unlocked 4S for relatively cheap price.

However, the exciting part is that I finally own a portable camera, which allows me to take nicer pictures and ジェットダイスケ will probably introduce nice apps and lenses to go with it.

I have been keeping up a photoblog of "Wall of Energy drinks" on my private facebook page, but since it has rapidly become popular, I'm going to introduce a new blog, only for energy drinks. It will be kept apart from my カリカレー blog, so that I can focus more on Japanese things here (which I haven't done much in these days)  :sadface

Anyways, here's a sample of future:

Happy Halloween everyone!

JLPT 2011

This year's second JLPT will be held in numerous countries on December the 11th. I will personally be attending at London's exam venue, at the N5 corner. The reason why I chose not to take N4, was that I'm currently having my final year in university as an undergraduate student, and in that sense, the workload needs to be balanced.

The exam will be held in University of London's school of Oriental and African studies department and the fee for all the levels of JLPT is  £70The closing date for all the applications is 6th October, nevertheless, a maximum of 900 candidates will be allowed.

Now I just need to get hold of my books, which were left in Finland, because of airlines' baggage weight  limits.

Hopefully this time next year I will be studying for the N3 exam. But now, back to studies..

Paketti Amerikasta!

Jeah, elikkä Irenestä ja mahdollisesta konkurssista huolimatta Amerikan posti USPS jaksaa vieläkin toimittaa lähetykset perille saakka samalla luottamuksella kuin aina ennenkin. Halvin kansainvälinen vaihtoehto, eli First class International on erittäin kustannustehokas ja varma toimitustapa Amerikan tilauksiin.

Luvassa on siis mukavaa vaihtelua perinteisiin Suomalaisiin kahveihin. Caramel on luonnollisesti hieman makeutettua kahvia ja Kolumbialainen taas erittäin aromikasta luomukahvia. Suosittelen Amerikan matkaajille!

Deadmau5 Speaker

Here's a brief Jetdaisuke style review of a random electronic gadget.

Deadmau5, the artist, is Canadian dj/electronic music producer. Along with his newest album, 4x4=12, he started to design his own fan gear, including the usual t-shirt line, but surprisingly, gadgets also.

Today, I received his Speaker, which looks like this:

                                                                 [Click for bigger pic]

His design can clearly be seen from the box itself, as it is filled with his quotations.
But the most astonishing feature of this speaker is, that you will have to plug the 3.5mm speaker cord right into its butt.

Instructions promise a battery life from 4 to 8 hours, which is remarkably good for such a small speaker. I've had this thingie only for an hour, so cannot really comment on that yet. I was also very satisfied with the audio quality - it really doesn't sound like cheaply made shady speaker, which doesn't take high volume, it sure gives pretty good value for its size and price (20$).

                                                                 [Click for bigger pic]

The speaker comes with two cords, one has 3.5mm audio jack in both sides for listening, and another one has usb on the other side and 3.5mm audio jack in the other. That's for charging the speaker.

Overall I'm happy with this tiny speaker, as it enhances my iphone's speaker and now I can finally listen to music without headphones in public places ^^

Tenso.com Step by [Finnish]

1. Siirry Tenson internetsivuille klikkaamalla tätä tai menemällä osoitteeseen www.tenso.com
2. Klikkaa "Free registration" kohtaa, jossa luodaan ilmainen Tenson käyttäjätili.
3. Seuraa Tenson englannin kielisiä ohjeita käyttäjätilin luomiseksi. Huom! Muistathan rekisteröityä sillä katuosoitteella, minne haluat tilaamasi tuotteet lähetettävän.
4. Kirjaudu Tenso.comiin uusilla tunnuksillasi, ja sinun pitäisi nähdä vastaava teksti:

( Shipping address for online shopping
        〒140-0002
( Telephone number for online shopping
          03-5739-3341

5. 〒140-0002 on postinumero ja seuraavalla rivillä on osoite, mihin voit tilata haluamasi tuotteet Japanissa. Huom! Älä unohda tuota TS-XXXXX kohtaa pois tilauksestasi, sillä Tenson työntekijät tarvitsevat tuota tunnusta, jotta he pystyvät lähettämään paketin tiedot oikealle käyttäjälle.
              Jos esimerkiksi tilaat Japanin Amazonista,
              niin tässä esimerkki:
7. Sain omaan pakettiini seurantakoodin maanantai iltapäivänä ja postimies toi paketin jo keskiviikkoaamuna ennen yhdeksää perille.

Sekä tässä linkki kaverini onnistuneeseen tilaukseen.

Tenso.com Step by Step guide

1. Go to Tenso.com
2. Click "Free registration"
3. Follow their instructions for creating your account.
4. Log into your account and you should see something like this:

( Shipping address for online shopping
        〒140-0002
( Telephone number for online shopping
          03-5739-3341

5. The "TS XXXXX" is your own account number and you always need to include it in your shipping address, so that Tenso employee will know that its your parcel.
For example, if you are ordering from Amazon Japan,
you need to do it like this:
6. Now you are pretty much good to go, all you need to do is to order shipping to your Tenso address, and they will email you a paypal link, where you can pay for their Service fee (from 490円) and the shipping cost to your home address.
7. After paying, wait for Tenso to email you with a shipment tracking code. My parcel was sent on Monday evening from Japan to Finland, and it I got it Wednesday morning.

Welcome

Hello everybody and welcome to my blog!

This blog is going to cover mostly trends and facts about Japanese culture, in the same way as my friend's Finnish blog. Sometimes randomly (in example, one of my favorites: Jetdaisuke), sometimes more officially, but still more or less about Japanese culture and language. However, I might add some posts of my 3rd university year in England.

But to begin with, here is going to be "how to" tutorials about ordering from Japan, cooking recipes and general posts about studying Japanese language.

Thank you for reading and よろしく

[Test] Let's begin with.. Tenso.com and Japanese forwarding [Test]

Hello everybody and welcome to my new blog!

I'm going to do introduction post later on, because today's news are too hot. So, let's begin..

Few weeks ago, I was one of the international shoppers, browsing Japan's Amazon, but came across with the sad fact, that all the products cannot be shipped overseas. Why, I asked my self many times, why "did you have to do this to me".

...

I was in need of an official JLPT practice book. I knew, that the next fully international JLPT (Japanese Language Proficiency Test) wasn't going to be before later this year, but my desire of learning most of the Kanjis during the summer break was too high.

Anyways, I noticed that some of the products sure can be shipped overseas from Amazon Japan's warehouse, but they have a base price of 2500円 for the overseas shipping (at least for Europe).

But then,

I once read about having a physical address in U.S. by a proxy forwarder company and I tried to google it, if there would be a possibility for same kind of service for Japanese goods.

I couldn't believe myself, how popular proxy forwarding seemed to be. I felt like the majority of the Japanese language, culture and manga forums had good posts and reviews of these. (SUCCESS!!)

Anyways, let's keep the long story short:

I found out that this company called Tenso provides one of the cheapest and most reliable proxy services. In addition, it seems to belong to Japanese auction and market site, Rakuten.

I will post a step-by-step guide on how to use Tenso later, but basically after free registration they sent me an email, containing their warehouse's address. The last part of the address contains user's personal account number, so that they know how to contact you.

So, I ordered the goods to Tenso's address from the Amazon Japan. Within few hours, Amazon emailed me, that my goods were shipped and I got a tracking code. The shipping was completely free and it reached Tenso's warehouse in 2 days. Again, within few hours Tenso emailed me about my parcel and they provided me with a paypal link , where to pay their service fee and shipping fees.

Tenso's service fee starts from as low as 490円 for parcels up to 1kg and the shipping fees are the standard EMS fees. Tenso ships ordered parcels on a daily basis (excluding weekends and Japanese holidays).

At the moment I'm feeling like my first post became too long and there's much to improve for future blogging. But to conclude, there are many different proxy companies in Japan, which will ship your goods overseas. Just remember, that some of them will order the goods for you (for extra cost), but the cheapest way is to order the goods by yourself and only pay for lowest service fee and shipping fees.

But now,

stay tuned for more from カリカレー
